Sewickley Presbyterian

For more than 150 years, the Sewickley Presbyterian Church, located on Grant Street, has served the spiritual needs of the community. In 2018, the church sought out Studio St. Germain for a transformative renovation of its chapel loft to accommodate a new custom-built pipe organ. Creative expression is an important aspect of worship, and the addition of a new organ underscored how music adds to the spirit of a congregation.

A nine-rank, two-manual organ, the Opus 90 was handmade and built on site by Bedient Pipe Organ Company of Lincoln, Nebraska, reflecting exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail and reflecting the Gothic style of the church. In redesigning the loft to accommodate Opus 90, Studio St. Germain incorporated motifs from the existing features and detailing of both the church and the organ. The metal flue pipes, with a hand-hammered finish, inspired the stanchion of the guardrail, and the custom clear glass panels that top the parapet allow for an unobstructed view of the organ. This project was the featured cover story of the August 2018 issue of The American Organist Magazine.
