J.McLaughlin Mt.Lebanon
After the success of their Sewickley flagship, J. McLaughlin, the stylish designer with a classic sensibility, decided to open a new store at the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon, ten minutes south of Downtown Pittsburgh. As with their Sewickley store, J. McLaughlin engaged Studio St. Germain (in partnership with Larson Architecture Works) for a complete redesign of the existing space.
Because J. McLaughlin prefers a unique look for each of its retail stores—avoiding the bland uniformity of many chains—its Mt. Lebanon location stands out as a balanced, inviting space with its own singular charm. The streamlined exterior, with its series of symmetrical cubes, hints at the elegant fashion aesthetic within, and the subdued interior colors, often suggesting pastel, offer a warm atmosphere for visitors. Understated merchandising displays, shelves, and tables reflect the refined taste of the J. McLaughlin brand and allow for ease of access.
From a drab retail space to a dynamic, harmonious boutique, this new J. McLaughlin store highlights the transformative power of architecture at any scale.
