Greensburg Residence

Greensburg, Pennsylvania, in Westmoreland County, is the site of a new 1,400 square-foot single-story residence that reflects the ideals of our High Performance Program: elegant design and a commitment to the health of both the occupant and the environment.

Inspired by the rustic simplicity of barns and cabins, the Greensburg Residence is efficiently designed for a family of four, and its unique element of combining outdoor culture with a comfortable indoor environment accentuates its livability factor. By emphasizing natural light, adding charming exterior features—such as a patio with an exposed fireplace—and employing a comfortable open-space plan for the common areas, the Greensburg Residence compliments the homesteading lifestyle of its owners, whose interests also include sustainability and well-being.

A multi-zone variable refrigerant flow air conditioning system and energy recovery ventilator (ERV) optimizes indoor air quality, making the Greensburg Residence a model of healthy architecture. All-electric utilities eliminate the use of fossil fuels and conserve energy while at the same time returning value to the owners in the form of reduced operational costs. Other characteristics that make the Greensburg Residence a high-performance standout include thermal bridge-free construction and custom-designed louvered canopies to minimize and maximize solar heat.

The Greensburg Residence, an example of how homes can empower owners to contribute to the public good, is scheduled to break ground in August 2023.
